Ciao from Catholic Youth Day

Hello everyone,

The sun is setting and I've got some amazing pictures to share with all of you. John Maillette, our diocesan photographer, took some great photographs. I wanted to share some of the ones he took this evening after dinner. You can see from the pictures that Bishop Brandt and several youth of our diocese really enjoyed Catholic Youth Day. He even got a caricture.

The photo at right is of three young people from St. Joseph Parish (Uniontown)who were blogging during dinner. Thanks so much for your comments.

If you are interested in being a diocesan youth reporter, don't forget to contact Christie Smith.

Thanks to the Office for Evangelization and Faith Formation, Christie Smith, Bob Sherwin, Jackie Mignogna, Matt Dowling, Becky Harmon, Darren Dorn and all the smiling faces of our diocesan youth. You truly made this a day to remember.

Keep checking back in the weeks to come to view the video from today's event. It's going to be something you won't want to miss.

God bless you,

Elisa : )

Bishop Brandt in Olde Idlewild

I would have to say this evening has been a huge success. Bishop Brandt rode the Scrambler in Olde Idlewild with a few young people from St. Joseph Parish, Uniontown. I'm sure they'll be able to enjoy a few more rides before the night is over. I can't believe it never rained today – God is good!

Everyone is really enjoying themselves. I even tried to win a prize at the fish game near the Balloon ride, but no success.

I'm going to head out into the park to see if I can catch a glimpse of anyone else on the rides. Hopefully, we can share some new pictures. We did manage to get some great video.

God bless,

Elisa : )

Young people around the diocese

Greetings from Catholic Youth Day 2009. Today was a really fun day but it's not over yet. Later today some friends and I are going to ride some of the rides here at Idlewild and Soakzone with Bishop Brandt himself. If you weren't here today you missed out on a really good time.

Justin Glosner, St. Therese Parish, Uniontown

Well, I think it's safe to say that Catholic Youth Day was a complete success. I'm seeing people wearing these green bracelets everywhere I go! The Bishop just arrived about an hour ago and has been busy meeting and greeting ever since. I was fortunate enough to greet the Bishop when he pulled up to his parking spot, reserved just for him. He's a very nice down-to-earth sort of guy. He actually dressed down today so we can ride rides with him. Everybody is just finishing up their delicious dinner now and about ready to head back out into the park. I think I might just do the same. You probably wish you were here, huh? (: Oh well, maybe next year?

Peace,

Amanda Cuteri, St. Joseph's, Uniontown

Dinner Time

The sun has continued to shine and we are surrounded by young people of all ages, priests, friends, family and even Bishop Brandt. I've spotted Father Doug Dorula, Father George Saletrik and Benedictine Father Fred Byrn. Bob Sherwin is here with his wife, as well as Christie, her husband and children. One of our diocesan seminarians, Tyler Bandura, has also joined us.

It's great to see everyone gathered for such a great occasion. To quote Father Doug, "We support Catholic youth!"

The bishop arrived at the Pavilion a short time ago and has just led us in the blessing for dinner. He's enjoying the opportunity to chat with all those gathered and smile for photos. We're so glad he was able to join us today – thank you bishop for being here and for continuing to support youth ministry in our diocese.

Many of our diocesan youth reporters have had a great opportunity to interview youth ministers, priests, and Christie. I'm excited to see how the videos turn out. We are showing the raw footage of today's event during dinner, and everyone continues to gather around the large screen to catch a glimpse. A thanks goes out to Darren for making sure we had the right cable to show the video!

It's a day like today that reminds us how many young people are on fire for Christ. As a parish youth minister, I'm honored to be surrounded by such amazing youth. They give me an added energy and inspire me to serve. I hope we can continue to share great videos, blogs and photo galleries with all of you as the months goes by.

Now, enough chatter. Here are a few great photos from earlier this afternoon. John you did a great job – thanks for sharing!

I hope you are all enjoying your Friday as much as we are here,

Elisa : )

Busy day, video in progress

Hi all. So, we are at the Pavilion just enjoying lunch. It's a crazy day here at the park, very busy. We lucked out though, no dark clouds in sight.

A few young people from St. John the Baptist Parish in Scottdale are interviewing Christie Smith as I type this blog. Then a few others from St. Bernard in Indiana will head to Hottin' Holler to interview Pam Short, a youth minister from their parish. Lastly, we'll head to SoakZone with hopes of catching up with some young people enjoying the water slides and pool.

The day has turned out beautiful. Thank you all for your prayers. We couldn't have asked for better weather. I just pray the rain holds off … fingers crossed.

We're going to head over to SoakZone.

I'll be back with more news soon and hopefully some great pictures from our photographer.

Until later, God bless,

Elisa : )

Catholic Youth Day at Idlewild & SoakZone

Hello all, Happy Friday!

I'm writing to you from my home in Harrison City this morning, before heading out to Ligonier for the diocese's first Catholic Youth Day. It seems as though WTAE is stating it'll be about 80 degrees with a chance for scattered thunder showers. Hopefully, that chance for rain won't keep any of you from stopping by the park. Bring your friends, your swimsuit and be sure to grab a cyclone or corn dog … oh wait, the Mineshaft Kitchen is always good for potato patch fries with cheese.

I'll be on hand today as the diocesan Web editor, parish youth minister, daughter and friend. I've rounded up a few great young people from my parish to attend, as well as Father Doug Dorula and one of my best friends. I do know Bishop Brandt is scheduled to be joining us today for dinner, and diocesan youth reporters will be on hand taking video of today's festivities. If you want to see your smiling face on camera, be sure to keep an eye out for them and offer a comment on the day's events.

I hope to see many of you throughout the park today, and for those of you at home, I hope to keep you up to date on how things are going. Take a few moments to offer prayers to our Lord for nice weather and lots of sunshine. It's looking as though my morning prayers are working, as the sun is peeking through the clouds here in Harrison City. I know Christie would really appreciate it. She has worked awfully hard to put this special day together for all of us. A BIG thanks to her for all her efforts, support and enthusiasm. You rock!

If you are interested in becoming a diocesan youth reporter, please contact Christie for more information. Stay tuned today for more posts, and in the days that follow as we'll be posting some great videos to our site. View the promo video above, if you missed it.

Enjoy your Friday all, hope to see you there, and we'll miss you if you can't!

In Christ,

Elisa : )
