Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt, fourth bishop of Greensburg (2004-present)
Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt, the Diocese of Greensburg’s fourth bishop, feels that experiences gained during his 34-year journey in the priesthood have prepared him to shepherd his new flock. With experience that runs the gamut from Vatican diplomat to diocesan administrator to parish priest, Bishop Brandt brings to his new post a breadth of service that is expected to serve the Catholic community well. Bishop Anthony G. Bosco, third bishop of Greensburg (1987-2004)
The church is not the bishop, or the clergy, but it is everybody. I see myself as a fellow pilgrim, walking with you." Bishop Bosco says the image of a pilgrim people of God, along with the Universal Call to Holiness--each central teachings of the Second Vatican Council--have comprised an ongoing theme in his administration of the diocese over the past decade. Bishop William G. Connare, second bishop of Greensburg (1960-87)






On May 4, 1960, Bishop William G. Connare, a Pittsburgh native, was consecrated and installed as the second bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg during ceremonies at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg. Click here to read more about Bishop Connare.

Bishop Hugh L. Lamb, first bishop of Greensburg (1951-59)
Bishop Lamb brought a vision for schools, hospitals and institutions to care for the elderly. Under his direction, nearly $6.5 million was spent on construction or additions to existing facilities. Eight new schools were created, including the first high school, Greensburg Central Catholic, which was dedicated in November 1959. He also established 10 new parishes. Bishop Norbert F. Gaughan, auxiliary bishop of Greensburg (1975-84)
Bishop Norbert F. Gaughan, the only auxiliary bishop to serve the Diocese of Greensburg, was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Pittsburgh on Nov. 4, 1945. He was in his first assignment, parochial vicar at St. Joseph Parish in Uniontown, when the Diocese of Greensburg was formed, which made the Pittsburgh native a priest for the new diocese.
