 | Diocesan Lenten Appeal
 | | During Lent, we are asked to reflect on our lives and blessings. Through the Diocesan Lenten Appeal we are called to share our gifts, just as the boy in the Gospel story of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. The miracle of the multiplication occurred when the boy’s act of sharing was coupled with the power of Christ. It was through the selfless sharing that Christ did so much more. When we share, the Lord multiplies the little that we have and adds value to our offering through the good works, which our gifts support. |
The local church of Greensburg meets the needs of nearly 170,000 Catholics in 101 parishes and communities in four counties: Westmoreland, Fayette, Indiana and Armstrong. Your response to the Diocesan Lenten Appeal provides essential support for this mission.
In addition to the new name, the annual campaign has a new timetable. The Diocesan Lenten Appeal begins during Lent instead of after Easter, as has been the practice in recent years. A portion of each parishioner’s gift will be used to support all diocesan parishes and the remainder is returned to their individual parish.
Direct payments offered
In 2005, parishioners were able to take advantage of a convenience service offered through the Diocesan Lenten Appeal for the first time. The Direct Payment Plan allows parishioners to have their pledge payments automatically withdrawn from their bank accounts.
The new service will save parishioners time and money. In addition, the money that the church would have spent sending those parishioners monthly reminders can be used to support ministries.
Parishioners can obtain enrollment forms from their pastors. Forms must be returned with a voided check and an appeal pledge card. The automatic withdrawals begin in approximately 30 days and appear on the parishioner’s bank statement. The service can be discontinued at any time.
