 | Entrance requirements
In order to be accepted into the diocesan permanent diaconate formation program a man should have the following personal qualifications:
- Be at least 32 years of age, and no older than 60 at the time of ordination, (candidates older than 60 years may be approved) for ordination upon the recommendation of the director of the Office for the Permanent Diaconate and with the approval of Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt.
- Be a Roman Catholic of mature faith, sound moral character and possess a sense of vocation to service.
- If married: be in a valid marraige for a minimum of five years of marriage. Have the spouse support the applicant’s interest in diaconate.
- If unmarried, be willing to embrace celibacy
- Have a history of active service in the church and in the general community.

- Have a college education.
- Be in good physical and mental health.
- Be willing to undergo a required psychological evaluation.
- Have stability in secular employment and in family life

- Be a registered parishioner in a parish within the Diocese of Greensburg.
- Be a United States citizen or a legal or permanent resident.
- Complete the two year program in The Certificate in Pastoral Ministry.
- Have the support of his pastor.
- Be able and willing to commit to the required time to all aspects of the formation program.
- Be willing to commit to regular involvement in the diaconate community and to continuing formation after ordination.
- Be willing to promise obedience to the episcopal authority in the diocese and be willing to accept any pastoral assignment that may be given him by the bishop.
