Gifts of Stock
Questions regarding gifts of stock may be directed to
The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Greensburg
by email or by calling 724-552-2502.
Donors should consult with their broker, accountant or tax preparer to determine the best course of action for them when making gifts of stock. Your broker or accountant will advise you on the best course of action, based on your particular financial circumstances.
Once a gift of stock is received, it will be immediately sold at its current market value. The proceeds of the sale will be sent from The Catholic Foundation’s broker (less a transaction fee) to the Diocese of Greensburg. The Foundation and the Diocese do not charge a fee for the transaction. Once the Diocese has received the proceeds from the broker, it will be forward the net amount to the appropriate fund, parish, Catholic school, Catholic cemetery or other Diocesan institution. The donor will receive credit for a gift equaling the full value of the stock on the date it was received into the Foundation’s brokerage account.
Please have your broker notify the Foundation by email or by phone at (724)552-2502 of your intended gift of stock. The Foundation will need your broker to provide the following information:
· Donor's name
· Name of the stock and number of shares
· Any special instructions
· Name of the beneficiary of this gift (parish, Catholic school, Catholic cemetery, etc.)
The Foundation staff will alert its broker to "watch" for the arrival of the stock. That will help to expedite the process. When the transfer is complete, the donor will be sent an acknowledgement letter from the Foundation, which may be used for IRS tax filing.
