Increasing the Effectiveness of Sponsor Couples

Father Robert RuhnkeRegister NowFather Robert Ruhnke who developed the marriage preparation program titled For Better and For Ever, has candidly offered, “When I began to experiment with “Sponsor Couples” in 1975, I did not understand the element of CONNECTION. All I knew was that Sponsor Couples and Engaged Couples were giving us more positive feedback than we got from our previous efforts.”

However, he has now learned that no matter how much we know and no matter how passionate we are about helping engaged couples, we cannot begin by just introducing ourselves and then tell them what they need to know. We have to first get to know and love them as persons with the hope that they may ~ someday ~ also love us… and then they may be attracted to our life style… and begin to ask us questions… and then we can begin to dialogue with them as peers. We need to learn to reach out and care about an Engaged Couple enough to take the time to establish a CONNECTION with them.

Fr. Robert Runke will have a presentation at The Bishop Connare Center on November 15th. He will address how to help improve on the Sponsor Couple method of Marriage Preparation. We will learn about making the all important “Connection” by means of “listening” versus “teaching and preaching”. We will learn about establishing a “peer-relationship” with the Engaged Couple as “co-learners” of marriage. We will also learn the importance of keeping in touch after the marriage ceremony.

Please make plans to attend Fr. Runke’s presentation on Sunday, November 15th, at The Bishop Connare Center, at 5:30pm. We will start with a buffet dinner in the main dining room and remain there for Fr. Ruhnke’s presentation. The cost is $20 per couple. ($10 for DREs or Priests who wish to attend). Register now.
