The Catholic Accent was founded by Bishop William G. Connare, the second bishop of the diocese. The first issue was published on June 1, 1961.

Bishop Edward C. Malesic, JCL, currently serves as the publisher of this bi-weekly newspaper, which is mailed directly to the homes of 44,000 parishioners in the four counties of the diocese (Armstrong, Fayette, Indiana and Westmoreland).

For more than 50 years, the newspaper has won multiple awards for excellence in reporting in the Catholic media.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to reach out and enlighten people of all generations in the Diocese of Greensburg and beyond by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

Jerome Zufelt
Editor
Jerry is the managing director of the Office for Communications and editor of The Catholic Accent. He is responsible for the diocese’s public and media relations efforts and oversees the operation of the newspaper. A member of the Catholic press since 1996, he joined the staff of The Catholic Accent in 2000. He also has served in public relations and publications positions in Catholic higher education. Jerry is a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Parish, Greensburg.

Elizabeth Fazzini
Managing Editor 
Beth is managing editor of The Catholic Accent and assistant director of communications. She manages the day-to-day operations of the newspaper and assists with media relations for the diocese. Beth has nearly 15 years of experience working for the diocese and its newspaper. She is a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Parish, Lower Burrell, and has been involved in many ministries. Her favorite is serving as a presider for Liturgy of the Word for children. 
 
Nancy Balfe
Secretary/Circulation Data Coordinator
Nancy is responsible for maintaining the newspaper’s subscription database and managing name and address changes for subscribers. She serves as a proofreader for the newspaper and composes all the Around the Diocese announcements. Nancy also serves as the receptionist for the newspaper, the Office for Communications and Information Technologies. Nancy is a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Parish, Irwin, where she volunteers as an extraordinary minister of holy Communion and lector.   
 
Mary Seamans
Photographer/Multimedia Specialist
Mary serves as the photographer/multimedia specialist for events across the four counties of the Diocese of Greensburg, which appear in The Catholic Accent newspaper and/or the diocesan Web site. She is also responsible for archiving images for use in diocesan communications, creating web based photo galleries, as well as audio and video packages in support of diocesan initiatives. Mary is a parishioner of St. Bruno Parish, Greensburg.
 
Valerie Rodell
Production Coordinator
As production coordinator, Val is responsible for designing pages and editing. She is also an occasional contributing writer. She has more than 20 years’ experience in journalism and communications, having previously worked in a full-time staff position for The Catholic Accent and the Tribune Review in Greensburg. Val serves as a church organist.
 
Beth Tallentire
Advertising 
Beth is responsible for coordinating all aspects of display and classified advertising for The Catholic Accent, including sales, promotions and recordkeeping. Beth joined the staff on a full-time temporary basis in April 2015 and become the full-time advertising representative in September 2015. She has more than 20 years of experience in sales and marketing. Beth is a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scottdale.

Maria Guzzo
Contributing Writer
Maria is a contributing writer at the Catholic Accent. She has more than 20 years of experience working at various publications in the Pittsburgh area. A member of Mount St. Peter Parish, New Kensington, Maria serves in a number of volunteer capacities there and within the community.

​​As the official newspaper of the Diocese of Greensburg, The Catholic Accent can be an effective advertising medium for you and your business or service. The primary circulation areas of the newspaper include Armstrong, Fayette, Indiana, Westmoreland, and Allegheny counties. 
 
​All advertising copy is subject to the approval of the newspaper staff, which reserves the right to accept or reject all copy submitted. No political advertising is accepted. The advertising deadline is 10 days prior to the publication date and some deadlines reflect changes due to holy days and staff holidays.

Format for Submission

Ads preferred in electronic format, emailed as a PDF file. Photos and art should have a resolution of 300 DPI. Basic ad design services are available at no additional cost. The Catholic Accent reserves the right to charge a $100 fee for complex designs or for designs that entail multiple changes.

 

Classified

40 cents per word; must be prepaid. 

 

Inserts

  • $55 per 1,000 (local); $65 per 1,000 (agency)
  • The size of the insert must be compatible with the size of The Catholic Accent, which is printed in a tabloid format (11.25” x 15” sheet page).
  • The weight of the insert must not adversely affect the mailing costs; otherwise an additional charge will be added.

Inserts must be shipped to: The Indiana Gazette, 899 Water Street, Indiana, PA 15701. Business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Skids preferred.

 

Billing

Until a payment record has been established, all new accounts must pay for ad space in advance of the advertising deadline, or upon placement of order.

 

Color Charges

Four color ads are an additional $150.
