Anointing and Burial of Christ Service

On Good Friday at 7 p.m., Capuchin friars and the parishioners of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish at the Lucernemines site, will reenact an ancient service of the Anointing and Burial of Jesus as held each Good Friday at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. This service solemnly reenacts the burial of Christ as the Gospel of John attests. Franciscans have faithfully prayed this service in Jerusalem since their arrival as Roman Catholic ministers at the Holy Sepulcher in the 13th century. There are very few places outside of the Holy Land where this ceremony is performed. Bishop Larry J. Kulick will be in attendance.
