World Language
The World Language Curriculum (Grades K-6) is an introductory course designed for younger students. Students will be introduced to the language through a variety of activities while focusing on the development of skills in the areas of listening and speaking.
The Foreign Language Curriculum (Grades 7-12) allows students to choose a specific language (Spanish, French, German) and gain an appreciation of the culture as well as the ability to communicate in the target language.
The curriculum incorporates the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) Standards and the World Language Standards. These Standards are equally applicable to learners at all levels, from pre-kindergarten through postsecondary.
Students will also be exposed to the geography, culture, and people of the regions where the language is spoken and their contributions to North America and to world cultures.
The five “C” goal areas (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities) stress the application of learning a language beyond the instructional setting. The goal is to prepare learners to apply the skills and understandings measured by the Standards, to bring a global competence to their future careers and experiences.
