Mission:
Inspired by the life of Jesus and by our founder, Mother Catherine McAuley, the
Sisters of Mercy
envision a just world for people who are poor, sick, and uneducated. The Sisters of Mercy are women of faith who commit our lives to God and our resources to serve, advocate, and pray for those in need around the world.
Foundress: Mother Catherine McAuley (1778-1841)
Ministries: Education, healthcare, social service, ministries that further the social, political, economic, and spiritual wellbeing.
Location: All across the United States and throughout the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
Local Ties: The Sisters of Mercy of Pittsburgh came from Ireland in 1843 and they have since became involved in many elementary and secondary schools, as well as colleges and universities.
Other ways to be involved: Lay people can be involved as associates, companions, or volunteers.
